School officially started for Hannah and Jonah last week.
Jonah enters Primary Year 1 which so I was a bit nervous for him. I was afraid he wouldn’t adapt well to the large campus with new teachers and classmates. The transition from Kindergarten to Primary school is often very stressful for children who have been well taken care of in Kindergarten.

To get Jonah excited about the new school, we started preparing a few days in advance. First, we bought new school supplies including stationary supplies, school shoes, a pair of headsets and a new water bottle.Then, Jonah and I set out for a “New School Make Over”. We visited our favorite Salon for a color and cut. I wanted to show him that we were a team and that whatever he was going through, I was going through too. Although he would be entering a new stage in his life, he would never be alone.

Finally, the all-important “first day of school” arrived! Jonah was up at 6:30am and the rest of the family was up with him – just to lend our support. In the car, Jonah kept asking Hannah for advice about recess, lunch, lockers and where the restrooms were. He was very worried about getting lost. Fortunately, Hannah is a Year 2 and was a great sister, as usual. She patiently showed Jonah where to line up, where the cafeteria was, the restrooms, nurse’s office and even the principal’s office. Then, they both set off for their first day of the school year.

When I picked them up in the afternoon, Jonah couldn’t stop talking about how much fun he had and how he loved his new school! All the nerves were wiped away and I have a feeling that Jonah will be enjoying school for many years to come.
